Bull Sale Report 2011

Thankyou to all buyers, bidders and underbidders for supporting Wattletop’s 21st Annual bull sale!!

Guyra turned on a cracking winter’s day for Wattletop’s 21st Annual bull sale which was also reflected in the results achieving 100% clearance on the 83 bulls sold averaging $6,536 and topping at $16,000. The top priced bull was bought in shares by the Laurie family Knowla Angus, Gloucester and the Vincent family Booragul Angus, Piallaway

E111 a powerful, slick skinned Sitz New Design 458N son is a genuine curve bender being below average for birth weight at +4.3 and +120 for 600 day weight putting him in the top 1% for the breed.

Lot 3, E236 another standout in the sale sold to James Harris Abington, Uralla for $12,000. A strong, highly muscled bull with a lot of depth he boasts high growth figures with +127 for 600 day matched with strong carcase figures with +4.5 for EMA and +1.9 for IMF. Both E111 and E236 have been enlisted in the 2011 Angus Sire Benchmarking Program.

Support was very strong from local clients with over 80% of bulls remaining in the northern NSW region. Three bulls ventured south to Victoria, E323 and E278 going to Coonmoor Pastoral Company, Lindenow South for an average of $7,000 and E194 to Bruce and Kath Allen Mortlake for $8,000.

We appreciate our long term client’s support and it was great to see repeat buyers returning and buying in volume, highlighting the success they have had with previous Wattletop sires. Ken and Barb Ellis “Killarney” Wards Mistake , and Peter and Christine Hall Bundarra who have had great success with their Wattletop bred weaners purchased 4 averaging $8,125 and 3 bulls averaging $6,500 respectively. Bill, Bronwyn and Tim Petrie “Briarleigh” Tenterfield purchased 4 lots averaging $5,000 and Renato Gaspari a long term purchaser of Wattletop cows purchased 4 bulls on Auctionsplus averaging $7,375. Archie Watts “Ben Mhor” Oberon who has also previously purchased females and bulls from Wattletop was very pleased with his purchase of E59 for $12,000.

We were very happy to have the support of Macquarie Bank’s agricultural identity Paraway Pastoral Company who have become a significant client over the past three years. In this year’s sale they purchased 15 bulls for an average of $5,833.

Lock, Ali and the team at Wattletop would like to again thank all buyers and supporters of the sale and we wish you all the best with your purchases.  Many thanks must also go to the people that worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make the day such a success. To John Portas the manager of Stratton who’s dedication and attention to detail is hard to come by.
